FIMO Tips!

Here are some handy tips for perfect results when using FIMO!
FIMO clay will remain soft as long as you are working on your project so you can work on a project for as long time as you like! Simply cover your designs with some plastic foil and you can leave them for weeks.

When you have finished your designs, you can bake them in your kitchen oven at approximately 110-120°C for 30 minutes. Leave them to cool as your design will not be completely hard until it has cooled down. When using FIMO, it is very important that you use the recommended temperature. If the temperature is too hot, FIMO can change colour or even worse, crackle and break! For great results, use an oven thermometer as sometimes oven thermostats can be unreliable. FIMO can be baked in stages, but the most important thing to remember is to keep the temperature low!

When using FIMO clay, you can get a little bit messy so make sure you have a box of wet wipes handy to wipe your hands clean when you need to. They also work well if you have a small stain on your unbaked work, so you can gently clean it off. To avoid finger prints in the clay (especially in warm weather when the clay gets soft) just put various parts of your project in the fridge as it firms the clay and makes it easier to smooth out the surface. If you want to keep your hands clean, you can also wear latex gloves.

When creating beads, it’s best to put them in the fridge for 2 hours. This will make it much easier to pierce a hole in the beads afterwards.

After your designs have been baked and have cooled down, you can apply a coat of gloss varnish to your design for a great finish.

Because FIMO is baked at a relatively low temperature you can put FIMO on nearly everything, such as wood, glass, metal, and aluminium. However, please do not bake FIMO on Plexiglas or rubber!

The best way to glue FIMO parts together are to use 2 component glue or superglue.

Finally to preserve your FIMO clay and make sure you can use it for years, just store it in an air tight plastic box and keep it in a cool, dark place.
